Juneteenth Resources
This Juneteenth, the Greater Stamford Young Democrats are encouraging active acknowledgement of the injustices faced by Black and African American people during slavery and since in addition to celebrating the holiday in an appropriate way. Whether it is economic inequality, barriers to housing and financial security, environmental injustice, racial oppression, or attacks on voting and civil rights, the past has not been fully rectified.
Despite these burdens, the Black Americans continue to overcome those obstacles, thrive, and grow to reflect a diverse and expansive representation of our country with the opportunity available to thrive in countless professional settings from politics and education to scientific discoveries, businesses, and more. Black joy matters. Black experiences matter. Black Lives Matter.
Let us learn from history, celebrate the holiday, and keep collectively pushing toward a nation that represents the best of who we are, where everyone has an active role in making our society more equitable and just. Below are some Juneteenth resources to reflect, learn, celebrate, and do more.
